We have recently been 'infested' by fruit flies and it's driving us BANANAS! I bought a watermelon a couple of weeks ago (due to Riley's consistent pestering, as I don't like them) and I believe they must have travelled in on it. They have been EVERYWHERE in our house! At first we tried killing them one by one...then we tried to ignore them and just wait out their life cycle...we tried making sure the garbage disposal was extra clean, no dirty dishes in the sink or dishwashwer, removed all fresh fruit from the house...nothing worked. Finally Chris looked it up online and found some natural home remedies, so we gave one a shot. Let me tell you, it's working like a charm!!! All you do is take a bowl and put some apple cider vinegar in it (a piece or 2 of fresh fruit thrown in actually helps a lot as well), then cover it with plastic wrap. Next you'll poke some holes in the top of plastic wrap with a fork (or a skewer is what we used) and VOILA! Fruit fly trap! They will INSTANTLY become attracted to the bowl of yummy goodness (to them) and start searching for a way in, which they will find. However, what they won't find, is a way out! I guess the way the plastic goes inside when you poke it, or maybe it's landing in the liquid cider, whatever the reason, they don't get out and you soon have a bowl full of fruit flies and not a house full! Thought I'd share in case any of you ran into this pesty situation.

I hate fruit flies!! What a clever idea!! Glad you are getting rid of them!
You are so thrifty as always! What a great natural, non toxic way to get rid of the flies. I love the green saran wrap (or whatever you guys call it!)
