There's way too much going on in my head...I don't know if I can organize it to write it down.
Last night I finally had a crazy night with my best friends, something I've been wanting for awhile now! We went to Hooter's for dinner and drink. We played Adam Sandler trivia with the whole restaurant and we won 2nd place! (which is what we wanted, it was a free t-shirt vs. free wings...and Justin-our team captain-chose a blue onesie for Riley...too funny!) Then we came back to our house and kept drinking while playing a couple of drinking games and a trivia game on the laptop. I had a blast! Even crazier is that we were done by 10:30pm or so!!! But it was a great night!
This week has been so busy at work, and next week won't be any better, so it's been hard for me to focus on anything but work and Riley...meaning we haven't had any time to go for a walk, and I haven't had much energy to focus on me and my weight loss. In fact, I am not really eating much during the day...this is a bad habit of mine...I don't do it on purpose...I just 'forget'. I don't remember the last time I actually 'exercised'.
I have got to get my life under control! There is so much I want to accomplish (hobbies, cleaning, Riley, weight loss, projects, landscaping, make more money, work, cook, the list goes on), but I can't seem to find the time, or energy, to do any more than work and make sure Riley is fed, diapered, bathed, and having fun. I've got to get a routine, I've got to change things. I'm working from home, something I really wanted, I've just got to make it happen.
I've got to get pictures off the camera, edited, on Winkflash. I need to make a photo book of Danny and Steph's wedding before my coupon expires. I need to run to Wal-Mart to get groceries (and a new pedometer...I washed my yesterday by accident). I want to go on a jog, it's nice outside. We need a plumber for our kitchen sink & bathroom toilets. Our a/c is NOT getting cool, I've been burning up all day. Chris and I have to ocme up with a lot of money to pay in taxes next month that we weren't expecting, so I need to find SOME WAY to make some extra money. And of course, I still want to just quit work, then I'd have time for all this!!! Just not the money for it! There's a garage sale this weekend that I am supposed to get some stuff to. We've got people coming over Saturday so Chris can take their portrait. I'd like to take Riley to Tumble Bugs. I'd like to go to a monthly scrapbooking crop that I get invited to every month. I'd like to join the neighborhood Bunco group. I would LOVE to train and be involved in a charity walk. I could continue rambling, but I'm sure you are bored.
So, that's not even the half of it, I can't put it all in words, but there's some beef for me to chew on when I re-read this.

Just Stuff
Well, nothing too exciting going on in my life now, but I thought maybe if I blogged about my 'nothing' it would feel more exciting?!?!?
Friday evening had a semi-surprise visit from my parents and grandparents (on my mom's side). We ordered pizza and just visited. It was nice. It is so special to me how loved Riley is by his great-grandparents...all of them (he's lucky enough to have met 9 and still have 8 living).
Saturday another set of grandparents (my dad's dad and step-mom) came by for a visit. They were unable to make it to the party because of the rain, so they wanted to come visit and bring Riley his gift. His gift is so cool!!! They gave him a Radio Flyer 'Retro Rocket'. I will try to upload a picture sometime this week. It's a 'rocket' with wheels that he can ride on by pushing with his feet. It's so cute! It's funny because Brooke just got her 'Retro' Radio Flyer tricyle from her grandma last weekend. Too bad we didn't have the rocket then, that would have made for some neat pictures together! Saturday night we went to 'Applebees' for a birthday dinner for my PaPa, so more grandparent-time! I love it.
Sunday was a 'lazy' day at home. I did laundry, dishes, worked on thank you cards and Riley's one year pictures, watched a TON of Law & Order (I told y'all I am addicted), and just did small stuff around the house all day while spending time with Riley.
Today I am working, working, working, while spending time with Riley and, apparently, blogging! Not too much planned for this week except the normal: work, Rilley, clean, Law & Order!!!! Oh! I did work on organizing Riley's clothes over the weekend. You know, going through and packing all the outfits that don't fit anymore to make room for all his new ones! And moving everything from our bedroom closet downstairs to HIS closet upstairs. Yes, he is finally going to start using his room. I won't make any more empty promises about him sleeping nights in there, but he is going to start storing his clothes in there, playing in there, and there are now DIAPERS and WIPES in there...so those are steps in the right direction!!
OH YEAH! Something for all you mommies and/or nurses out there! Lately Riley has been doing some things that are 'out of the ordinary' for him. He has either awoken in the middle of the night crying and it's very hard to soothe him back to sleep or he's waking up at 6am crying and not going back to sleep. And just today he has done the same during his nap, twice, but luckily gone back to sleep. This is strange for him because he usually sleeps about 10 hours straight through at night and would wake up about 7:30am. Last night he had a fever, too, but it was gone this morning (don't know if it's connected or not). Our thoughts are:
*weaning from bottle - maybe he was hungry? But now he's eating more at dinner and drinking his milk well at night
*teething - but he just cut 2 teeth and I can't feel/see any more?
*nightmares - didn't know if he was too young or not, but parents/grandparents have offered this has a suggestion.
If you have any ideas, have experienced this, etc. PLEASE let me know your thoughts! He's so sleepy during the day (and SO ARE WE) because of this.
Thanks in advance!

Addiction
Hello, my name is Heather and I am a Law & Order-olic.
This is a very difficult thing for me to admit, but I have a problem and the first step to recovery is admission.
But I must confess, I haven't decided yet if I want to recover!
I just LOVE this show! Well, I love 'Criminal Intent' and 'SVU', they are great! Every time I sit on the couch to watch tv I look for one of these shows! And the bad part is, I can almost always find one! I don't know why I love them so, but I do. If I am tired and there are still episodes coming on, I'll DVR them. I know, I know, I have a problem.
I also wanted to let y'all know that I am working on getting up a blog about the part Saturday, with pictures, but something is going on with 'Blogger' and it's not uploading my pics, so I must wait until they solve the problem.

Party Time
"There are three hundred and sixty-four days when you might get un-birthday presents ...and only one for birthday presents, you know." - Lewis Carroll
The party was GREAT! It was definitely bitter-sweet on many levels...my baby turning 1, family in and then gone, all the planning for just 2 hours...you all know what I mean. In the end, though, it was a great time with family and friends. As I always say, pictures tell it the best:

Walking into party room for the first time

Cousins Brooke & Becca saying 'Hi' (he was asleep when they got into town)
There was a 'group hug', but Chris didn't catch it on camera...so sweet!

'Walking' on his own to the 'party room'

"YAY! Present Time!"
I won't bore you all with the present-opening pictures...just know, he got TONS of great stuff, everyone was very generous and we are very appreciative!

Becca's turn at the pinata!

And Riley's turn! (all the pics I have of Brooke are from the back, can't see her face)

And the 'aftermath' - pinatas are so fun!

The cake. They copied a napkin from his party decor...I was SO impressed!

He's 'thinking' about this cake thing...examing it...starting slow....can't be TOO careful....

And the sugar high kicks in!

Getting silly now! But he enjoyed it!
So there they are, a small selection of pictures to tell the story of Riley's 1st Birthday Party!
If you would like to view a slideshow of all the pictures you can go to:

Weekly Update
It's been a busy one, getting ready for Riley's party and...oh yeah, I haven't shared my news yet!
Last Tuesday my boss/mom suggested that I try continuing to work for her (until she sells the business, which she still wants to do), but try doing it FROM HOME! You can only imagine how exciting this suggestion was for me! I jumped right on it! Tuesday and Wednesday we prepared, figuring out how I can access my work computer from home, how to deal with phone calls, how to fax, etc. etc. etc. and then Thursday I was home, working, spending MORE TIME with Riley! He's still adjusting, as he doesn't quite understand why mommy can't pay attention to him all day, cuz we're home and that's how it is on the weekends, but we're working through it. Getting on a schedule is key, so he will feel comfortable and know what to expect. However, getting on a schedule THIS week has been difficult because I've been trying to get ready for Riley's party this weekend, and for our visitors.
Speaking of visitors, we just found out that Chris' dad's house had an 'explosion'. Something happened with the electrical box behind their house and it blew, filling their house with smoke. The fire dept. even said they are going to have to re-wire the entire house. Scary stuff. So...they will not be able to make it up this weekend. Bummer, but understandable. Ben has to fly on Friday, which means Melissa and fam will not be coming in until Saturday morning. Bummer, but understandable. So, it looks like we've got a quiet Friday not...not what we were expecting.
We are still very excited to see Melissa, Ben, Brooke & Becca...I'm so glad they are going to be able to visit (God Willing...please don't let anything happen to keep them away!), especially since they won't be just 3 short hours away much longer. Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze ourselves in for a visit up to OK before they move as well, but I know everyone is going to be trying to, so who knows.
Anyhoo...I'm just working while Riley sleeps, waiting on Steph to call and come over, she's going to go shopping with me this afternoon to order the cake, finish getting food for the party, and drop off the baloons at the party store. We haven't seen much of each other since we stopped working together, it totally sucks, but I'm hoping we'll see MUCH more now that I'm working from home! She even said she'd come by and 'babysit' Riley on her days off so I could get more work done! It's gonna be great, so much wonderful stuff is going to come from this! Especially right before summer, now I'll have the time and opportunity to take Riley to the park to play, or even in the back yard for some water fun (I remember how envious I was of Melissa last summer when she would send pictures of her and the girls playing in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday).
Well, if it's going to 'work' I better get back to 'work'!

Birthday Recap
It was an eventful day yesterday! Started out with a very busy work day (TONS of voicemails and TONS of email problems). Riley recieved his first 'Happy Birthday' phone calls from his Great-Grandma Doris and his Aunt Melissa & cousins Brooke & Becca who all sang 'Happy Birthday' to him beautifully! He snacked and went down for a nap at about noon. And wouldn't you know it, the day I need him to take a short nap he takes the longest one ever...so 3 and a half hours later he wakes up. We hurry through lunch, get him dressed for his pictures, and head to Kiddie Kandids for his pictures. I took FOREVER to chose the ones I liked, add borders, make my package, etc. In the meantime Chris picked up the lasagna and started cooking dinner. My mom, Riley & I got home about 7:30pm...Justin was already there and my dad was soon to arrive...Chris finished making dinner (lasagna, toast & salad) and we all sat down to eat about 8pm or so.
Riley opened his gifts next, then we did his first handprint (you know, in a heart-shaped plaster mold), and then it was cake time!!! There are no words to describe a baby's first 'cake experience', so we'll just let the pictures do the talking:

I think you can see that he enjoyed every bit of it. We did just a piece of white cake (we used a free coupon from Tom Thumb...seriously...they sent us a coupon for a free, $12 cake, no catch) last night...we're saving the personal sized, chocolate cake for his party on Saturday...never fear, those pictures will come soon enough!
Thanks again to all of you for visiting my site and commenting. I really hope this blog is around for many years to come and that someday I can sit Riley down and he can read all about himself and everyone's kind thoughts & wishes to him. Y'all are so sweet!
Have a Great Day everyone!

"In a year's time, he's a year older."
- Bobby Robson
First Birthday
Author: Shana Gingerich
Happy birthday Riley. You are finally turning one!
No more "Mommy, feed me!"The fun has just begun.
Soon you will be running, climbing and jumping everywhere.
And Mommy and your Daddy will be pulling out their hair!
But always remember, when the punishments do come.
No matter what happens. You are loved, Little one.
So today is the day...my baby's first birthday. It's been a year. It's almost 8am...this time, 1 year ago, I had just gotten my epidural, had been in the hospital for about 8 hours, hadn't slept a wink in over a day, and I was SO READY to meet my son! I wouldn't start pushing until 10:30...and at 11:33am a 7 lbs. 3 oz., 20.5 in. long, bouncing baby boy was born into this world. He was amazing to look at, amazing to hold. Miraculous. I look at him every day and wonder to myself, 'How? How did I help create something THIS perfect?' I thank God for every moment I have shared with my son, for every smile I've had the ability to see, for every laugh I've been able to hear, for every hug I've felt.
This past year has FLOWN by, I can only imagine how fast the next one will go. But I have cherished the past 365 days and will continue to cherish every second Riley is in my life.

PAT-A-CAKE
Riley learned to clap on Sunday! His Nana plays 'Pat-a-cake' with him all the time and recently he's been grabbing your hand and making you clap...but Sunday he just started clapping himself when she sang the song. Now, he just loves his new trick! It's adorable to see those two precious hands practicing their new skill.
I have been MIA for awhile I guess! Things were so busy with Riley being sick, and once he was better (SUNDAY FINALLY!) then I had so much catching up to do! I've got some pretty exciting news (No...I'm not pregnant), but I want to tell some people in person before sharing it online...but it won't be long. Not that any of you will care as much as I do, but oh well! What else? What else?
My weigh in on Sunday was horrible! Gained 2 lbs. So all that sitting on my toosh rocking a sick baby caught up to me. This week I've been better, but I haven't had the chance to go grocery shopping (going tomorrow, can't wait), so eating in my calorie range has been challenging, but I know I've done better than the past 2 weeks. I'll get back into the swing of things soon. What's great is that it is getting warmer outside, so I am looking forward to taking long walks with Riley! He loves going on walks. I may have to get a jogging stroller if I can really make it a habit this spring/summer.
Well, I only have time for that brief catch up, and now I've got to go check all the blogs I've been missing the past week!

'Will it ever stop? Yo...I don't know.'
Riley is STILL sick! I stayed home with him yesterday (he threw up again Wednesday night) and he was running a low-grade fever and he's had diarrhea ever since. He's so 'blah'. I just can't stand seeing him like that! We seriously just laid in bed ALL DAY yesterday. I brought some toys in and he played, as long as he could do it while laying on his side. (I apologize if I am not using the correct forms of lie, lay, etc., I could never get those down!) But mostly he just slept in my lap. I did get to watch the second half of the 1st season of GREY'S ANATOMY! LOVE IT! And I also rented 'Rent', which I knew NO ONE would ever want to watch with me. I liked it, but be warned, 95% of the movie is in song. Really. There are very few conversations that are not sung to music. Really.
Anyways, I did come into work today and the poor thing laid down in his play yard and just feel asleep on the carpet. Then he woke up when the phone rang and wanted to be in my lap. Once my mom got home she 'stole' him from me and he is now asleep on her chest. I'm ready for him to be his normal, energetic, smiling, laughing self!!!
As you can pretty much tell, this is what has consumed my life for most of the week. I have to pay some bills this weekend while I've got Chris around to help with Riley, we've got a birthday dinner on Saturday night at one of my FAVE restaurants (Texas Roadhouse...YUMMY!), and Sunday we've got to go to mom and dad's to put their pool table back together. However, I am hoping that it will be a relaxing weekend overall.
Great news (which most of you already know)...Melissa & Fam are staying in the 'lower 48' (yes, 48, not 58)!!!! They are not going to Alaska, or Japan, or wherever else!!! They are moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. (SLC from this point onward and forever) I'm pumped! She has sent me several pictures of the area and it looks like great fun. Although some great tourism, being so close to Vegas, and skiing will be NO TRADE to having them live only 3 short hours away, I know they are excited to take the next path in their journey, and I am excited for them.
OK, off to check on Riley and get something 'productive' done while I can!

HOT-HOT-HOT
Well, the fever came. It came about 5pm on Monday evening. Started at 100.5* and kept creeping up from there. We checked it almost every hour. 8:30am the next morning it was at 104* so we went to the doctor. (Isn't it frustrating that your kid always get sick right at 5pm, right when the doctor CLOSES!?!? At least this seems to be the trend with my son.) As I expected he had a viral infection, so there is nothing they can really do. But since this was Riley's first 'fever', I learned things from the doc that I can use next time. The fever never got below about 100.5* until about 5pm yesterday, then it kept going down and he's been fever-free since.
It only lasted about 24 hours, but it felt that the longest 24 hours of my life (with the exception of the day he was born, although that was only 12 hours). He seems much better today, just tired, fighting that virus exhausted him. He did get a little dehydrated yesterday, I think from sweating out the fever since his diarrhea had subsided at 3pm on Monday. So we did give him some Pedialyte (the doctor suggested using 4 oz. Pedialyte regular with 4 oz. of water with his bottle of formula...it worked, he drank it just fine), kept trying to get him to drink water, but everything seems fine today.
Thanks for everyone's concern and advice, it feels really great to have all you 'moms' out there!
Speaking of, I want to say thank you to all of Mel's friends that visit my blog and comment. There are more of you than my own buddies...at least who comment. I feel like I know you all so well since I visit your blogs as well. Melissa is a wonderful friend, and this is obvious because she HAS wonderful friends as well.
It only lasted about 24 hours, but it felt that the longest 24 hours of my life (with the exception of the day he was born, although that was only 12 hours). He seems much better today, just tired, fighting that virus exhausted him.
