Riley Reflections
Here are just some fun facts...and pictures...all about Riley!
If you ask Riley a question, his response is usually 'because'. For example: I say, "Riley, why are your pants in the kitchen?" and he answers, "Because." So then I'll try, "Because why?" and he'll reply, "Because my pants are in the kitchen." Well, that certainly clears things up.
He is certainly a little litigator, who always has a response for everything. If we tell him 'no', not to do something, he constantly replies, "I just...." As if 'I just' is a justifiable reason to do what we've asked him NOT to do! Example: We say, "Riley, don't cross the street!" and he says, "But I JUST want to cross the street to see Tristan!"..."Riley, we do not get in the pantry!", "But I just want to get a peice of candy!" Yes, honey, we KNOW what you JUST want to do, and we don't want you to do it! Ha ha ha, it's cute though.
Some things Riley LIKES: biting his nails (bad habit and we are TRYING to break him of, it's actually MUCH better the past month or so); picking at his lips (he was bad about this over the winter when they would get dry, but once again, it's MUCH better lately); singing (he STILL loves to sing, he does it all day long, he learns songs so quickly and even makes up some of his own...he just had his first Kindermusik class last week and the teacher was surprised and proud of him for catching on to a song when no one else did! The next Americal Idol? We'll see, but keep a look out!).
Some things Riley DISLIKES: taking naps (yep, we dropped those right after he turned 3...but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying! He has 'downtime' in the afternoon where he watches some tv and just has to 'chill' and stop moving for awhile, which keeps him from being grouchy the rest of the day and still allows me to get some things done, so it actually hasn't been anwhere near as bad as I had expected, thank goodness!); pickles (and if you ask him he'll actually tell you he HATES PICKLES! It's a very passionate dislike apparently!); olives (black or green, doesn't matter, doesn't like 'em).
Riley would ask where Mommy went often when I would leave the room for various reasons, so Chris started to tell him I joined the circus, and it's now become a game. They will talk about what I might be doing in the circus (lion tamer, acrobat, tight rope, etc.) and how long I'll be gone, etc. Then I come back into the room and Riley says, "YAY! Mommy is back from the circus!" Not too long ago we were at Bennigan's and Chris went to the bathroom, I guess Riley didn't notice him leave because when he noticed Daddy was missing he said, "Uh Oh! Daddy's gone to join the circus again!" Too cute!
We have a very 'rigid' bedtime routine and let me tell you, that is the way Riley likes it! Before he moved to his toddler bed it began by choosing his bedtime movie, brushing his teeth, turning off his main light, turning on the night light, reading a bedtime book, saying our prayers, then we would 'blow us down' (something he learned from The Wiggles' Captain Feathersword, "Well blow me down!", so two of us would blow and the other falls down, in a circle until everyone has a turn), then we say our goodnights and I love you's, followed by putting Riley in his crib and blowing LOTS of kisses as we leave his room. Same way every single night and Riley knew what came next and would tell us, "Time to blow us down." or "Time for story", etc. Now that he's in a big boy bed things are mainly the same except we skip the 'blow us downs' because he gets in bed to hear his bedtime story, say his prayers, etc. He still knows the routine though.

Summer Fun!!!
I'm so excited, I just HAD to blog about it!
I just finished signing Riley up for tons of fun activities for this summer!
In June he will be taking a Kindermusik class...in July he has swim lessons - first time in the water without Mommy...in August he'll be doing an art class...and finally he'll finish the summer off in September with a 3 & 4 year old soccer clinic (no games, just working on skills, etc.).
We are SOOO excited! These are all activities that Riley has shown interest in and since he doesn't go to mom's day out/preschool/day care, I am trying to get him involved in some structured activities around other kids.
I also joined a gym on Mother's Day and they have a wonderful Kid's Club that Riley goes to while I exercise...it's working out WONDERFULLY!!!
Lots of new things happening around here, and definitely keeping us busy, but we truly are having the time of our lives, and it's only going to get better!

SURPRISE!!!
I got my FIRST EVER SURPRISE PARTY last night!!! It was a BLAST! I will be turning 30 next week and my friends & family had apparently been plotting and scheming for a couple of weeks to throw me my first surprise party...and boy was I surprised!!!
Little things started to come together and I started to get JUST A LITTLE, I wouldn't say 'suspicious', more hopeful, that something might be brewing, but then 5 mins at my neighbor's house and she had all my hopes completely debunked, all hope was lost, at least for last night being the night.
So I headed to Kohl's to shop with Steph and the kids, she didn't hurry me, or look at her watch, or do anything that made it seem like we were on a time schedule, so I was pretty sure nothing was going on. We get home around 6:30/6:45pm and silly me, with all the cars in the driveway (I knew some people were going to be at my house cuz there was talk about going to dinner or they were 'in the area' for other reasons, etc.), I went to the front door (I ALWAYS go through the garage), I expected one of the several car owners could open the door for me since my hands were full. I knocked, no one answered, so I unlocked and opened the door to an empty house, but noticed black and purple balloons in the living room...then...SURPRISE!!! Everyone comes out of the kitchen. They were expecting me to come through garage and had streamers and balloons all set up at the door! What a bummer. I was definitely surprised, and when I scanned the room and saw everyone that had come (even our friends that live over an hour a way) it brought tears in my eyes. And although there are definitely 2 very special people in my life that could not be here (Mar & Mel), I could definitely feel they were there in spirit!
It was a WONDERFUL PARTY! They grilled burgers and dogs, had a fun birthday cake, MARGARITA MACHINE, and so much more! We spent most of the night in the backyard, chatting, listening to music, doing gymnastics, etc. I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately, I made the unwise decision to take a Jager shot with 'the boys' and that had me passing out by 10:30pm. I'm totally bummed about it because we were having so much fun, I can't believe I zonked so early in the night...but we did get started before 7pm. We didn't even get to Sing Star though!!! LOL
Thanks to all my friends and family that were a part of this unforgettable moment in my life. I cannot express how blessed I feel to have you all in my life. With my deepest love and gratitude, Thank You!
(I was waiting to post this because Chris took a few pics with his camera before the battery died and we had to switch to mine, but he hasn't had a chance to dowload them yet so if there are any good ones I can share them later!)

What Happens In The Mountains...Part 2

Fire Station Play Date
We had a play date Friday at the fire station RIGHT down the street from our house - so close we actually walked to it! It was especially fun for Riley because we hear the fire engine and ambulance driving past our house all the time!
Look how big those tires are!
Trying on the VERY HEAVY hat!
Riley had a blast turning on and off all the flashlights they had in there!
"Don't worry, we're on our way!"
Kids can be afraid of fire fighters when they are dressed in all their gear, especially the masks, so the firemen brought one out for the kids to try on (or the mommies) to help ease any fears. Riley didn't seem to have a problem with it at all! Look at his eyes, you can tell his smiling!
What a great visit we all had!

Our Big Boy
Riley spent his FIRST night in a big boy bed Saturday night and it went wonderfully! He has given us NO problems going down at night, stays in bed without any issues! He has woken up in the middle of night crying, but stays in bed and we just have to go up and calm him down. And of course, he's waking up VERY EARLY, but he just comes downstairs and climbs into bed with Mommy and we get to snooze a little longer. So far, I have to say, it's going MUCH smoother than anticipated, so I hope it stays that way!

What Happens In The Mountains...
Well...I guess is going to be blabbed about and shared with you all! LOL
For a very well written and detailed description of our trip to Utah, please visit Mel's Blog (link on the right). For those of you who read both of our blogs, I won't repeat, but I will share some pics and summarize what we were doing.
Day 2, Thursday, Park City, Riley playing in snow
Day 2, Thursday, Park City, Window Shopping - this was MUCH safer with the kids for most of the stores on Main St. Ha ha ha.
Day 2, Thursday, Park City, Egyptian Theater, where Sundance Film Festival is held/shown
Day 2, Thursday, Leaving Park City - if you didn't notice, Park City is absolutely GORGEOUS and was probably one of my, if not THE, favorite places that we went
I think I'll go ahead and post this section for now and just do a little at a time. Mel did such a great job describing what we did, that I figured I'd just share some pictures that I feel captured our visit. Hope you enjoy, it's a beautiful place and as we've said a thousand times already, we had an absolute blast!
